Rooster party

I am too late to enter the Rooster Party, but here is the link for the party. I did not register for the party on time, which is probably just as well since this is the only Rooster I have. Just love the rooster's.. They have certainly gained a lot of popularity in the recent past.

Aren't roosters great? They look great with everything. This little beauty became mine on mother's day. I currently have him displayed above my kitchen cabinets, but he looks great on the outdoor patio.

Beachy decor

I am joining Gina's Beach Party at The Shabby Chic Cottage today. These are pictures of our guest room and guest bath. The bath is a french/beach decor. The wall paper has fleur di lis pattern on it. It was there when we moved in and so I just went with it.

My sister made this lamp with shells she collected in the carribean. I have had this lamp for 23+ years, it always seemed to fit in no matter where we have placed it.

I still have plans for this room. I would like to make it more cottage like with wainscoting and hooks for towels, instead of bars. I bought the iron shelf at Hobby Lobby, love it! Thebig pitcher is a McCoy, kind of hard to see in the pictures, but a favrite of mine.

The towels are the same color as the starfish. Wish I had more of this kind of starfish.

Vacation in the Wild Wild West

My DH and I have been vacationing in Colorado this past week. We have been drinking in the mountain views and cool mountain air. These pictures are from Central City. An old mining town turned into casino town. I love the colors and patina on this old livery stable, and of course the writing itself is so cool. Thought you all might enjoy these pictures as much as I do.

Birds of a Feather

I love my small collection of birdies. These bird cages came from HomeGoods. I have also seen them on many blogs, I think they are so neat. Click over to the The Shabby Chic Cottage to see more little birdies.

Beachy guest room and thrifty treasures

This is our beachy guest room. It has been so fun putting this room together. We found the furniture on Craigslist. The furniture was a very dingy and dirty white color, already "distressed". Well this is the project that started my knowledge and my fascination for blogging. In searching the web for instructions on how to pain and distress furniture, I came upon Cindy's blog, "My Romantic Home". I followed her post on painting furniture to a the letter and have been in love with my furniture ever since. I then became a stalker of Cindy's blog and then her blogger friend's blogs and finally after 6 months I started my own blog.

The big shell lamp was a gift from my sister many years ago. She collected the shells and made the lamp for me. I love it!


The cute frame with the roses was $.99 at the goodwill. This room has a beachy cottage feel and the roses on the frame and in the linens just goes so nicely with the striped comforter and shams on the bed.

Our guests tell us that it a very inviting and comfortable retreat, just the atmosphere we were hoping to achieve

I love cookbooks, these were $1 each except the Rachel Ray one was $.50. I love the pictures in the Vegan World Fusion Cuisine. Recipes come from a restaurant in Hawaii.

Big spoon and Fork, $1 each. Can't wait to paint and hang up in kitchen.

This pitcher is enamelware and very large. I paid $5.

Aah the old swing, I remember my grandma's front porch in Tennessee. It was painted white and hung just outside the kichen window. My cousin and I would sit and swing and swing, sometimes a little wildly. Forever will I think of my grandma when I see an old porch swing and quilts.

Sitting in the shade, on my swing, leafing through my new books. You need to own these two books. I ordered mine from Amazon and I got them in 3 days. First of all Tara Frey, has authored a very informative and beutifully illustrated book on Blogging. I am new to blogging and am anticipating that I will become much better blogger in the future.

The second book is authored by Barbara Jacksier and features spectacular photography of waterside homes along with decorating advice. I am drooling over each page.

This quilt is called "Around the World".

These quilts are very old, 2 of them were made by my grandmother and 1 by my husbands grandmother. They are all 3 very well loved and have the wear marks to show it.
